The resort town of
Cabo offers a wide variety of ocean-side activities, including whale watching, swimming with
dolphins, riding camels, trip to a Mexican ranch or simply gazing at the El
Arco rock formation, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. Take a journey to the historic colonial
district of Todos Santos, founded in 1724 as a Jesuit mission station.
Coral Princess dropped anchor about a mile from the
marina. We tendered ashore – joined our
day tour ‘4 x 4 Desert and Camel Adventure’ which was a guided off-road safari
adventure including a walking tour of the cactus forest (cardonne) and a ride on a camel. Paolo, from Cabo Adventures, was a fantastic
guide and very jovial! He pointed out
interesting facts in the cactus forest and also spoke at length about the
camels. He was leading our camel named
Slim, as we walked along the beach, with Pepe taking photos. There are turtles nesting on the beach and
the nests are protected just like ours on the Sunshine Coast.
A local family awaited our arrival at their quintessential
Mexican ranch. We enjoyed a traditional
Baja meal, tortilla making presentation and tequila tasting. Paolo was not shy with the tequila shot
glasses and taught us the proper Mexican way to throw ‘em down! Four ‘shots’ later, he expected us to get up
from the table and climb into the back of the 4x4 for the drive back to the bus
parking area!!! Temperature was over 30
degrees!
That evening after dinner, we went to the Mexican Fiesta
party in the Explorers Lounge. There was
Latino music and the Assistant Cruise Director had organised games…. Kez won a bottle of champagne in the crazy
hat game and Linda won a bottle of champagne in the tequila swilling
competition! Danced away!
