Thanks to Kez and David, we were in the platinum group for priority
disembarkation. They were running late
due to the US Federal Govt cutbacks and we had to wait an extra hour. Easily found our way to the taxi rank and got
taxis to our hotel (Hyatt Place) for $US10.
Kez and Dave headed off for their airboat ride and everglades tour; Dave and I went to the shopping mall next
door, ate lunch and then toured the local wine and liquor store. Jumped on the yellow trolley for 50c each and
rode down to the beach front and Las Olas Avenue; and then on to Galleria
Mall. Nice beach and plenty of people
out enjoying the weather. Very busy on the beach, in the streets and in the bars and restaurants. Traffic very heavy - people going in all directions! Looked very similar to our beaches, the sand fairly white in colour. The lifeguard towers look very different but the equipment out front is the same.
Back to hotel, met up with Kez and Dave, walked over to Carrabas Italian
for dinner.
Our Coral Princess docked in Ft Lauderdale with two of her competitor cruise ships as well. The infrastructure here at the port is amazing!
The beach - beautiful sunny afternoon!
Ft Lauderdale – Monday
Kez and Dave bought a day pass on the water taxi and toured Ft Lauderdale
by water for the day. We ordered a ride
on the shuttle to Sawgrass Mills – the largest outlet mall in the southern
states. Enjoyed looking around and had
lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, before shopping at Greg Norman for nice
shirts.
Even though the shuttle guy said hto just phone and he’d come get us, he
didn’t. So we found a local bus and got
on it – the driver was very helpful and said we could get it all the way to
Galleria Mall. For $3.50. Took 1hr but we had a tour of Ft Lauderdale. Met up with Kez and Dave, shopped in Publix
for a hot chicken and salad, went back to the room for a party – which ended up
being a hoot with Dave showing blasts from the past and other favourites….
